Whenever and wherever Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles play with every other, its a lot more than another game. Eagles vs. Cowboys is the stuff of legend.
As it is a definition of a NFL rivalry ignore the documents. OK, theBoys lead the show 68-52.
But a few of these have a place on the list of 10 Eagles games.
Fittingly, the first of two regular-season meetings is this weeks Sunday Night Football game on NBC. Both teams head into the contest with records.
Therefore, welcome to the official beginning of Eagles vs. Cowboys week. Let the hype and accumulation .
On Monday, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Cowboys as a ancient favorite. It is a Cowboys home game.
The die-hard Birds fans out there, including myself, are excited about another moment besides most of the NJ sports betting trash-talking and chatter.
The Eagles have delivered lots of them.
Here are my 10 hard to forget Eagles-Cowboys minutes (out of a Philly perspective, obviously ).
I like watching Eagles vs. Cowboys games at the comfort of residence or, now, at among those 10 NJ sportsbooks. Its tough to forget that the 1999 game at Veterans Stadium.
That is the one in which Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin had been stretchered off the area using a spinal cord injury that is career-ending. Yes, even the Eagles fans even cheered as it happened (I wasnt one of these ).
Obviously, the part I remember most is currently choosing to depart early in the fourth quarter. The Birds were monitoring 10-0, and quite honestly I did not believe they had any chance of winning.
My group proved me wrong. Then-quarterback Doug Pederson (yes, that Doug Pederson) and team chose to make a comeback once I made my exit.
2 Norm Johnson field targets along with a touchdown pass to Charles Johnson together with 1:07 remaining sealed the deal.
I listened to it all built about the car trip home.
I have a tough time coming up with fond memories of this Chip Kelly era.
The former University of Oregon head coach came with a great deal of hype but did not exactly live up to those expectations.
However, the Birds were led by him into an NFC East crown in his very first time.
The 24-22 victory over Dallas on Dec. 29, 2013, has been a memorable one (the losers clinched a Wild Card).
But Kelly did not do it. LeSean McCoy rushed for 131 yards and caught a three-yard touchdown pass from a guy named Nick Foles (within his very first go-around together with the Birds).
This is a back-and-forth battle. The Cowboys got within 2 points with 3:50 remaining in the match. Brandon Boykin came up to clinch the win when the home team needed it most.
I have no trouble admitting that Emmitt Smith is still among the play.
His three Super Bowl rings have been proof.
When the good Eagles defense made a massive stand against the Cowboys star at the identical time, I recall several times.
The Dec. 10, 1995, game tops the list.
The score was tied 17-17, and the Cowboys faced a 4th and 1 in the fourth quarter. Smith got the ball, but the defense stopped him.
Not so fast. It was the two-minute warning; no play.
So with a different opportunity, the exact exact play conducted. Same outcome!
The Birds caught the ball back with a chance to win. Gary Anderson field goal gave us fans another reason to celebrate.
He had to kick it.
I recall having my family over for Thanksgiving dinner in 2014. It happened to be the year the Eagles were playing with the Cowboys.
So we did not miss a second of the match, the dining room table moved to the family room.
It turns out we ended up loving also the sole unfolding over the TV display, the one about the desk and two feasts. We are speaking a 33-10 Birds success.
McCoy was one of the celebrities for 159 yards, racing in this one. Such as a 38-yard touchdown. The defense sacked Tony Romo four occasions.
And everyone went home full and thankful for the triumph.
Not every Eagles-Cowboys game is a high-scoring event. A complete illustration of this took place on Dec. 17, 2007.
The final score: Cowboys 6, Eagles 10.
However, the portion of this one is.
Running back Brian Westbrook couldve easily scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. He had a conduct but stopped just short of the finish zone. He took a knee in the line.
At the time, I was thinking,Why not dent the touchdown? You are right there!
In the history of Eagles vs. Cowboys matches, it was a genius transfer. Dallas had no timeouts left. Quarterback Donovan McNabb took three knees, and the rest will be now history.
I am among the many Eagles fans out there hoping DeSean Jackson is now beneficial for Sunday nights match.
Theres a very good reason . This speedy receiver is capable of creating a big play every time he catches the ball.
A complete example of this took place on Dec. 12, 2010, at Arlington, Texas.
With all the Eagles vs. Cowboys game tied 20-20, the visitors began their drive on the 9-yard line. What happened next is one of the very exciting and longest crime plays franchise history.
About what was a 91-yard catch and run play michael Vick passed Jackson the ball. Even the Birds jumped out before 27-20, with near 12 minutes to perform.
David Akers added a 28-yard field goal to make the score 30-20.
Jacksons operation is just one still worth talking about now, although dallas obtained within three points. He ended with 210 receiving yards.
After the Eagles were being coached by Buddy Ryan, he gave fans and members of the network plenty to talk about.
This Thanksgiving Day game from 1989, aka the Bounty Bowl, is one which individuals Eagles fans have a challenging time.
The Eagles along with ryan were accused of putting a $200 bounty on Dallas kicker Luis Zendejas.
Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson which arrived along with the remarks by Ryan were nearly as entertaining as the game.
Incidentally, Philadelphia happened to win the game 27-0.
The Eagles-Cowboys competition got warmed in89, its hard to overlook that the sequel to the Bounty Bowl.
The hatred between these two teams wore a WWE feud minus the entire body slams and chair shots.
Lets be crystal clear, Eagles fans have pure hatred for the Cowboys. After Dallas came to Philly on Dec. 10, 1989 (fourteen days after Bounty Bowl), it was similar to a enemy invasion.
Remember we are referring to a fan base that is not afraid to throw snowballs.
The feisty fans were equipped with a complete arsenal of ice and snow . The Bounty Bowl signs hanging round the arena made it extremely clear that this one was going to get ugly.
Anyone standing on the Cowboys sideline has been an open target. Luckily, I watched this one.
Trash talking is fine. Throwing snowballs and ice took things too far. The CBS announcers sitting at the stall discovered as they were calling the game themselves ducking.
Years after, this Birds 20-10 victory on the 1-12 Cowboys stays a footnote that is heavy into the Bounty Bowl saga.
Lito Sheppard is not one of the players Id include in my list of best Eagles of time.
But when talking about the plays in this rivalry, he realized something that I will never forget.
When these 2 teams played 2006, everyone believed Terrell Owens (the prior Eagle playing for the Cowboys) was likely to hog the spotlight. The game took place at Lincoln Financial Field.
Owens finished with only three catches.
Sheppard turned out to be the true playmaker in this one. He intercepted a Drew Bledsoe pass on the Eagles 6-yard lineup and conducted all the way to 102 yards to the finish zone.
Eagles won 38-24.
Nothing says classic better than the Eagles vs. Cowboys matchup for the NFC Championship game at the Vet. Talk about adding meaning to a storied rivalry.
Being a young kid at the time, I do not exactly remember what I had been doing with this cold day (below freezing temps and powerful wind gusts) in January 1981.
The Philadelphia Phillies were fresh off their first-ever World Series win, along with the City of Brotherly Love was starving for more.
Together with the national spotlight now about the Birds, among the best players ever to wear white and the green . 42 yards dashed to pay an early 7-0 advantage along with dirt.
2 Tony Franklin field targets and a late 9-yard run by Leroy Harris sealed the 20-7 victory.
And FINALLY, my Eagles were going into the Super Bowl.
Needless to say, it ended up taking nearly another 40 years before I experienced that the Super Bowl celebration in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
